...And so we say goodbye.

It is true, I cant keep up anymore. I must say I enjoyed posting and keeping this visual/written journal both for you and for me but I am finding that I rarely post anymore. It seems it is time to say goodbye. Websites being the way they are these days, it seems I can do everything on there with more ease then on the blog. I find it quicker and easier to pass on images and information on my webpage so I am directing you all to visit me and my work on my website ALVAREZ ART. Notice, the same name, just to make things easy!

Please come visit often. It is updated much more frequently.

You can follow the links to my work at the Gallery, Art Classes- I offer after school art and portfolio development as well as some adult workshops from time to time, Blog - where you will find some of my art videos and short clips from art classes , Upcoming Events - for all the stuff I am up to and more!

So, that being said.....'til next time

Sincerely yours,
Heidi Field-Alvarez

PLEATING AGAIN

To an outsiders view my pace may seem like it is slowing down but really it is just slow work! I am now box pleating trim. This is tedious but believe it or not I am digging it. The effect is so cool. I am not too sure how it will look once it is on the faux curtains, but I am hoping I like it considering all the work going into it. I'm sure I'll make it work somewhere.
The photos to the left show some of the stages involved with this pleating. First I iron each long piece so it is easier to make very small hems. After they are hemmed I mark out half inch marks on the back side of the fabric as guidelines for my pleats. Next I fold each pleat and iron each as I go along. You can images the scene in my house as I attempt this during the day with my young children running around and interrupting every five minutes :). Quite funny really! After all the hand pleating and ironing is done I baste to hold the pleats steady. I will fill you in on the rest as soon as it is accomplished, hopefully in this century.

So anyway, I love historical costume sites because these people really know what they are doing! So much research and all I have to do is click on their site. Can't beat that. Check this one out; for box pleating. Also, if you are cruising around and wasting a Friday night, check out this cool dress. The detail at the neck reminds me of box pleating. Heaven of Gowns has some amazing dresses and stuff.
I didn't mention on my last post the site of the Virginia Museum Studio school in case anyone wanted that link. It is; Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Just hit the link for education and it will bring you to a site where you can find out about the Studio school.

STUDIO

I have many things on my mind lately. My studio is one of them. This is because of the upcoming summer art lessons I hold. I give classes to young students, 4-9 years old or thereabout. I am realizing I have to do something about my seating so I am analyzing my workspace. I think I may have to make a trip to IKEA. They have very economical prices and good design. I will also try some of Richmonds' great art stores such as Main Art in the Fan district. This is a place packed with treasures. It is located next to Virginia Commonwealth University which has an excellent art program. Main Art also has a small store located within Plant Zero, local art studio space. This place has a very hip vibe and as it is a revamped warehouse, its a cool arcitechtural space.

There are also Plaza Art and Art Market who also supply the endless stream of VCU students, local artists and designers. So, I suppose I will have to start moving today, get my run in and then get out there to these stores. Maybe I will find some more inspiration for my next project.

RECOVERING BUT NOT WORKING
art by Pablo Piccaso

Well, about four doctors visits and six x-rays later it is confirmed that I dont have pneumonia! I suppose that is a relief but then what the heck is going on, is what I say. I have had an upper resporitory infection for around six weeks! Yuck. Not only am I not working on my art pieces but I had to take a leave from work.....not to mention the poor mothering going on around here! This is definately an explanation mark kind of entry. I promise this should be the last enrty about my sad, sick life. I will move on to more artsy things, I just had to get it off my chest...no pun intended. So, I am sitting here at home with no children to worry about, not much to do and in total quiet. It is very rare and I kind of like it. I think I will sleep :)
